Amazing salad cream is a 4-ingredient wonder. In 5 minutes you have the perfect dressing to dazzle your day.
Hey oil, I’ve left you (in case you didn’t notice)
Leaving oil-based dressings opened my world to experimenting with different dressing ingredients and including all those lovely bottles of vinegars on the shelves. Cranberry vinegar, with it’s sweet-tart flavor profile is a winning combination with your favorite mustard.
Be a player
I found cranberry vinegar on its own to be a bit too sweet which is why I’ve paired it with white wine vinegar; however, it will depend on the brand. So, play a bit when you make amazing salad cream the first time. Start by adding 2 tablespoons (or less) of the cranberry vinegar to the mustard, taste and start adjusting.
It’s amazing how many ways you can find to use your salad cream. I love it with pasta, a bit of red pepper and some onion as a pasta salad.
Equally, we love it over warm potatoes with a few chives and some celery as a warm potato salad. Don’t forget this easy dressing for your favorite wraps or over steamed or roasted veggies. I’ve also been known to smother this on my chickpea cutlets. Worth an exploration.
I tend to be one of those folks who throws themselves in the deep end. In my enthusiasm, I often skip the add, taste and adjust part. At least with amazing salad cream you can add a bit more mustard if you discover your cranberry vinegar is too strong or more of the white wine vinegar. But you can’t maneuver that adjustment so well when you add too much salt for example. One step, then another, then another. You’ll get there in the end. Peace.Print

- 4 Tbsp. prepared mustard (use mild, a combination of mild and Dijon or any of those mustards you have on hand)

- 2 Tbsp. cranberry vinegar (if you can’t possibly find this, try raspberry and adjust accordingly)
- ½ tsp. garlic powder
- Combine all the ingredients into a smooth dressing.
Chives and/or dill go particularly well with this dressing.
If you want to serve this over a warm dish, just leave it out on the counter or by your hot stove or oven.
